Mr and Mrs Richards, Weybridge
With nearly a quadruple garage that was just being used as a junk room and storage, the client contacted me to ask for ideas of what to do with this large space which would incorporate it more into the house and so they could use it more. It was to be turned into a large utility room, games room and gym. By taking walls out and adding new ones, it provided the family of four with a large utility room which has their washing machine, tumble dryer, spare fridge freezer, a new water softener and plenty of storage space. We then turned the remainder of the space into an area for their table tennis table and home gym. A bespoke window seat was made for storage and to be used as a large seat. The existing brickwork was poor so we had to carry out a lot of making good and match the bricks with the existing ones where the old garage door was. We also cut holes for a new large window, replaced the old garage doors on the back with french doors and glass panels, replaced another side door and made a large window for the front to match in style with the existing windows in the house. To finish off, the oak flooring and earthy colours created an open, bright area which is now be used every day and the clients are over the moon about.
We engaged Eclipse Property this summer (2015) to convert our double garage into a large, high end games room, and also to re-design and re-build our utility room and downstairs cloakroom.
I can genuinely say we were delighted with both the results of the work as well as the day to day service we got from Eclipse. The job was by no means straight-forward a new outer wall, for example, had to be built and needed to seamlessly integrate with the period frontage of our property, the windows needed to be designed and inset in keeping with the rest of the look and feel of our house, and we also had a challenging young family (Emily 6 and Lucy 4) to work around.
Andy the Managing Director is an absolute perfectionist – indeed his standards, to be honest, were higher than our own! He wouldn’t stop until everything was of the highest standard (be it woodwork, quality of flooring, plastering finish or paint work). In addition, he has a keen eye for creativity and how to make the best of any given space. He made excellent creative suggestions from anything from colour or grout, tiles, paint, type of floor right up to window size and location as well as the positioning of interior and exterior walls.
All our friends and family have commented positively (and with some envy J) on the quality of the building work and finish.
I guess, however, it’s the little extras which make all the difference. After the job Andy’s team cleaned all the exteriors down with high pressure hoses, re-gravelled our drive, and even watered our garden whilst we were off on holiday. It was great to have a team you could trust in your house from start to finish and who were fun to have around, whilst also being discrete and sensitive to the needs of a young family.
In addition, and really importantly, Andy ensured his team delivered the job on time and within budget.
All in all, I couldn’t recommend Eclipse more highly.
